RUSSELL JOSEPH BROUSSARD's Obituary
Russell Joseph Broussard was born on April 6, 1938, in New Iberia, Louisiana to the union of Ulysses Broussard and Nola Labbe, who both preceded him in death.
At the age of 17, Russell entered the Army and served honorably for 8 years, 2 months and 8 days, (a common declaration of his) where he was a non-commissioned officer, reaching the rank of Sergeant. While in the military, he was joined in holy matrimony to Lenister Tabbs. They were blessed with one daughter – Marilyn. Lenister also preceded Russell in death.
After serving in the military, Russell returned to New Iberia, where he met Audrey Coleman. They moved to Miami, Florida and was joined in holy matrimony. They were blessed with a son and daughter – Dwayne and Sandra. Russell remained in Miami until his transition.
Russell was a highly skilled auto paint and body repairman. It was often stated that he was not perfect at a number of things, but he was a perfectionist when it came to his work. It was a source of pride to him to take something so mangled or damaged and make it new again.
Russell was a lifelong Catholic and joined Holy Redeemer Catholic Church when he relocated to Miami. He served as an usher and was active with The Knights of Peter Claver, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He also participated in the Men’s Club of Holy Redeemer. Without fail, Russell prayed the rosary every morning.
Russell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a surrogate grandfather to so many young children where he was affectionately known as “Pop Pop”. His favorite pastimes included reading, hanging out at the beach, listening to Sam Cooke, billiards, bowling and watching sports, where he was a huge supporter of all the local teams. He also had a great passion for animals and handed down this passion to all of his kids.
Russell made his transition peacefully at home on Thursday, June 25, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memories loving wife, Audrey; children, Marilyn, Dwayne and Sandra; sister, Ethel Porter and Elaine Williams (who preceded him in death); daughter-in-law, Kendra; grandchildren, Andrew, Brian and Lauren; sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Broussard, Leona Guillory; brother-in-laws, Mack Guillory, Martin Jackett and Robert Hector; nephews, Rudolph Tauriac, Patrick Tauriac, Keith Broussard, Troy Williams, Dr. Roger Hector, Dr. Mark Guillory and Mack Guillory; niece, Stacy Stallworth; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
