Rosario Alba Serrano-Julio's Obituary
Rosario Serrano-Julio of Snapper Village in Miami, FL, died at age 96 on March 24, 2026.
She was born in Santiago, Chile, on July 11, 1929. Rosario graduated from the University of Chile and received a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine. She married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Hernan B. Julio-Varas, in December 1956.
Dr. Serrano worked for the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, where she was granted a scholarship to study microbiology of milk and dairy products in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1963. Upon her return, she became head of the department of microbiology of dairy products, which functioned both as a research and regulatory entity.
In 1968, she gave up her career to follow her husband in his international career with the World Food Program. She held consulting positions in her field in Paraguay and the Dominican Republic, while Dr. Julio was posted there. At each post of their 25-year diplomatic career, she was active in and led the charitable organizations with which the wives of international personnel were involved. She was also a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club.
Rosario is survived by her two daughters, Angelica and Eugenia, her two sons-in-law, Carlos and John, her grandchildren: Angelica and her husband Mike, Gabriel, Julian, and two great-granddaughters: Natalie and Eloise.
Funeral arrangements will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on April 3, 2026, at Van Orsdel Funeral Service, 12220 N. Kendall Dr.
