Romeo Chua's Obituary
Romeo Sia Chua, 85, of Kalibo, Aklan in the Philippines, passed away on September 18, 2023, in St. Petersburg, FL surrounded by family. Romeo, also fondly known as Romy, was born on June 18, 1938. He was a loving husband to Virginia and a dedicated father to his children Maricar (Richard), Marilou, and Marvin (Pim). Romeo was also a proud grandfather to Tyler (Jessica), Marisa, Magnus, Yva, Maryn, Marcella, Nate, Genevieve, and a great-grandfather to Connor. He was preceded in death by his mother Maria Sia, father Pacifico, and sibling Vincent. Romeo is survived by his siblings Marianito, Elenita, Antonio, Amelita, Aristedes, Edwin, Mabel, Dennis, Debbie, Jeanette and numerous loving nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Romeo graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Mapua Institute of Technology and ended a fulfilling career as a Mechanical Engineer with Coulter Electronics. He was known for his practical and scientific approach to his work.
In his spare time, Romeo enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, fishing, ice skating, and fixing things or trying to fix them. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat in addition to watching Manny Paquiao, Muhammad Ali (back in the day) - all from the comfort of his own couch. Despite loving the comfort of home, he was also an avid traveler. Romeo traveled the world solo during his single adult years and experienced the cultures of India, Europe, and many more. After marrying the love of his life Virginia, the two became determined to see the rest of the world - which included China, Holy Land, Russia, with the latest adventure being a road trip from Miami to Los Angeles.
Romeo was a long-time member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he found solace, community, and service as he often volunteered with the Church at many Habitat for Humanity projects where he could contribute his handyman expertise. He always offered his time and service to those he loved- if you needed something fixed, he was there. And if it wasn’t fixed, it was rigged to work!
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Van Orsdel Kendall in Miami, FL. The family invites relatives and friends to pay their respects during this time.
