ROBERT E. REGAN's Obituary
Robert E. “Bob” Regan was born May 11, 1924, and passed away at home on June 5, 2017 at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jeanne McCullen Regan, and a son, Robert Michael Regan. He is survived by his brother, Richard Regan of Palm Coast, FL, and children, Patty Friesmuth (Bob) of Davie, FL; John Regan of Miami; Jeanne Tygielski (Gerry) of West Jefferson, NC; and Susie Fleenor (Rob) of Virginia Beach, VA.
Born in Covington, KY, Bob attended St. Theresa High School where he met the love of his life. He served in the Navy for two-and-a-half years, including service as a radio operator on the destroyer escort, Neal A. Scott, during WWII. Bob and Mary Jeanne walked down the aisle in September of 1948 and remained hand-in-hand for 59 years until her passing in January 2008. Following his military service, Bob worked at Eastern Airlines for 40 years in various capacities in Payroll, Crew Scheduling and Operations until his retirement in 1986. In addition to raising five children, Bob was a much-loved “GrandBob” to eight grandchildren: Kelly King (Corey), Michael Friesmuth (Amy), Daniel Friesmuth, Virginia Foote (Jonathan), Kate Tygielski Chazin (Dan), Beth Tygielski, Kristi Fleenor, and Ben Fleenor, as well as a two-year-old great grandson, Colton King.
Bob was a longtime parishioner of Epiphany Catholic Church in South Miami, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of Miami Elks Lodge 948, where he could often be found playing shuffleboard and taking his family to Sunday brunch. He enjoyed cooking burgers on the grill, dancing with his girls to Frank Sinatra, traveling with Mary, and nibbling on chocolate candy and jelly beans. Bob would say the key to his longevity was his nightly bowl of ice cream.
Visitation will be at Van Orsdel Chapel Kendall on Thursday June 8th, 5:00 – 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Jude O’Doherty at Epiphany Catholic Church on Friday, June 9th at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christopher Columbus High School or Our Lady of Lourdes Academy.
