Procopio Causin Reyes' Obituary
Procopio Causin Reyes passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 6:16 pm at 69 years old in his home in Miami, Florida. Upon his diagnosis with myelodysplastic syndrome in 2022, Procopio fought a long and hard battle against cancer with his family and friends at his side along the way. His family remains grateful for the support and care from his various medical care teams, including the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported him through his 69 years of life. Despite the insurmountable burden this diagnosis placed on his ability to live life normally, Procopio still found time to call his family everyday, listen and dance to music, pray the novena, and even head to the beach.
Procopio, best known affectionately as “Dodong” by most, was born November 4, 1956 in Cebu City to Marcelino and Dympna Reyes as the seventh of eight children. Despite the untimely passing of his parents, both passing onto heaven before his high school graduation, he often recounted fond memories of all the adventures he had with his siblings going around the city, hanging out with neighbors, and traveling to other places across the island of Cebu including Barili, over 60 kilometers away from the city, to spend time with extended family and visit the origins of his family’s roots.
He married his wife of 37 years, Dorotea Tidoso Reyes on November 19, 1988 in Cebu City in a Catholic mass surrounded by friends and family. Procopio immigrated to the United States in 1991 and became a naturalized citizen in 1999, living his life proudly as a Filipino-American. After adjusting to life first in Tampa, Florida with the support of extended family, the family settled down in Miami, Florida where Procopio remained a resident for the rest of his days. They welcomed their daughter, Stephanie, in 1990, followed by their son Anthony in 1994.
He spent his career as a radiology technician and dialysis office clerk, dedicating his life to helping others live longer and healthier lives. He treated his patients with warmth leading with his optimistic personality and shining sense of humor to bring them cheer.
Dodong and his family lived a happy life together, surrounded by their community in Miami, and frequently traveled to visit family and friends around the country and in the Philippines. Procopio created long lasting memories that will live on through the stories of his loved ones and his hours of camcorder recordings and photos. He was able to travel the world, visiting his homeland of the Philippines often, and other destinations across Asia, the Caribbean, and Europe for vacation and religious pilgrimages.
Procopio enjoyed being surrounded by people he loved. Eating delicious food, sharing stories and jokes, and dancing to the electric slide whenever he could. He enjoyed watching sports, swimming, fishing and watching action movies whenever he could squeeze them in between tending to his family and household needs. He was a proud member of the Filipino Catholic community of South Florida, devoting much of his time to singing in the choirs and praying together with various community groups, most especially the Señor Santo Niño Sinulog of Miami and the Couples for Christ. His faith and devotion in Christ provided him with the hope of everlasting life.
He is principally survived by his wife Dorotea Reyes, daughter Stephanie Reyes and husband Francis Eusebio, son Anthony Reyes and grandson Paxton. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather to Paxton Mateo Eusebio on January 20, 2025. He enjoyed Paxton’s warm embrace, loving laugh, and “beautiful eyes.” He is also survived by his siblings, Maria Asuncion “Inday” Reyes Raffinan, Marcelino “Bebet” Causin Reyes, Jr, Maria Loreto “Dayday” Reyes Portus, Antonio Mariano “Bebot” Causin Reyes, and Maria Nieves “Mae” Reyes Pascual. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings, the Tidoso family, and his loving nieces, nephews, and extended family living across the United States and the Philippines.
