POPPY K. CHIMERAKIS's Obituary
CHIMERAKIS, Poppy, age 85 passed away January 25th, 2014 at The Palace in Kendall from lung cancer. Poppy was born on December 1st, 1928 in Marcus Hook, PA to Peter and Despina Pahides and became a registered nurse. Poppy served many years as a member and officer of the Daughters of Penelope and enjoyed volunteer work for the Papanicolaou Cancer Research Center and St.Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.Poppy is survived by her sons, Dean Chimerakis, (Miami), Lee (Theresa) Chimerakis,(North Palm Beach), 3 grandchildren, Nick&Jessica Chimerakis(Minneapolis), Dimitri Chimerakis(Miami), Jess Chimerakis(Miami) ;3 Great GrandChildren, Luna& Solelei Chimerakis(Miami) and Cora Chimerakis(Minneapolis). Her sisters, Fi Kefalas(Philadelphia) Jeannie Stamus(Delaware).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr.James C. Chimerakis, her parents Peter and Despina Pahides, and brother Steve Pahides. Visitation will be held on Wed., 1-29-14, 6 -8 PM with a trisagion svc. at 7 PM at Van Orsdel Coral Gables Chapel, 4600 SW 8th St., Coral Gables. Service will be at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 2401 SW 3rd St.,Miami on Thur., 1-30-14 at 11 AM. Entombment to immediately follow at Woodlawn Park North Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 3260 SW 8th St., Miami.
The family asks in lieu of flowers donations should be made to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church and the Papanicolaou Cancer Research Center at the University of Miami.
