PHILLIP ROGERS CLARK's Obituary
Phillip Rogers Clark, 87, husband, father of 4, athlete, Miami-Dade courts public servant. Phillip was born and raised in Miami, FL, youngest child of Bruce Greaves Clark and Esther Hall Turner, and grandson to Robert Post Clark, Miami pioneer who ran a wildly successful dredging company, which dredged the Miami River. Phillip lived in the Miami area most of his life, playing football for Miami High, running track and field at the University of Miami, and graduating from UM with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, after serving in the Army Airborne during the Korean War. After graduating, Phillip took a job with the Dade County court system, working over 30 years for them and becoming a fiscal administrator. That's where he met his future wife, Judith Grace Hosford. Phil loved the natural world and sports, following the local teams with fervor, and sailing and sailboarding with his kids. He flew a small plane recreationally after the war, taking family for rides over Key Biscayne Bay. Phillip's favorite pastime in later years was watching local flora and fauna from his backyard's screened porch, life abounding in his South Miami neighborhood. He loved guava with cheese pastries, sweet plantains, and fresh fish. He has always had a big sweet tooth.
Phillip died at home Monday evening, October 4, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Judith, his eldest sister Esther Knuck, his children Jim Bradford Compton, David Grant Compton, Rebecca Sue Clark, and John Hosford Clark; and 7 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Frances Goff, and his brother Bruce "Buzz" Greaves Clark, Jr. He will be buried at Caballero Rivera Woodlawn North Cemetery on 8th Street, Miami, FL Monday afternoon 10/18/21, next to family interred there.
