PHILIP JEROME DAYE's Obituary
Philip Jerome Daye, 97, of Miami Lakes, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Philip was born on October 15, 1917 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Alexander and Farida Daye. He was born into a big family – seven brothers and one sister. Coming of age in the Great Depression, then serving his country in the Army Air Corp he saw the best and the worst of this world. How he handled each challenge without complaint showed the character of the man.
The seeds of his big, loving family was seen in how you could see the pride in Philip’s eyes as he watched his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Philip was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Pearl Daye. He is survived by his daughters: Lynn Tarte and her husband Andrew Tarte, Deborah Hendry and her husband Robert Hendry; his sons: Philip Daye, Jr and his wife Shirley Daye, Alexander Daye and his wife Christine Daye; his grandchildren: Robert Hendry, Jr. and his wife Althea Hendry, Erica Driver and her husband Rick Driver, Dawn Sneed and her husband Robert Sneed, Tina Cornejo and her husband Manuel Cornejo, Holly Pereira and her husband Nio Pereira, Simon Daye, and Zachary Daye; and his great-grandchildren: Robert Pereira, Manuel Cornejo, Jr. Sarah Cornejo, Marcus Cornejo, Melanie Rojas, Lexus Pereira, Byron Sneed, Madison Hendry, McKenna Hendry, Elias Sneed, and Nicholas Hernandez. He’s also survived by his brother-in-law, Frank Nowland.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm this Saturday, August 8, 2015 at New Hope Community Church, 6400 NW 31st Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you continue Philip and Pearl’s generosity and their fight against cancer by giving a donation to the American Cancer Society.
