George Adamson
I met the Wirth family while Paul and I & our families attended the Navy War College in Newport, RI in 1969-70. We became fast friends immediately. We not only attended classes together, but our families partied together and explored Newport on many occasions. Paul was an antiquer of sorts and on several occasions he would stop and
pick up an old piece of furniture which someone had discarded; he intended to refinish it; whether he did or not, only Irma knows. We each had three children about the same age and they spent many hours exploring the old tunnels of Fort Adams where we lived in OLD base housing. I had the pleasure of visiting Paul and Irma at West Point where he was the G1; will never forget the time when Charlie (his deaf delmation) got loose duriing a Cadet parade...quite a scene! My wife, Jane, and I visited Paul and Irma several times in Coral Gables where we were entertained royally, to include a memmorable boat ride driven by son, Rick, through Miam Bay and an unforgetable dinner at a Cuban restaurant where there was lots of action and delicious food!
My kids said I had to recount the story of when the Wirths came to visit us in McLean, VA. Paul hid in the entry coat closet when Cliff Neilson, a NWC classmate, came to visit. Paul jumped out w/a loud BOO and I think Cliff is still shaking (45 years later).
Paul was a FINE Officer, Father, Husband and Friend; he will be sorly missed by many!!
God Bless and may he Rest In Peace!! -Wally Adamson, Colonel, USA (Retired)
