Patricia Ecke-Pas, 54, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 6, 1956.
Pat is survived by her loving husband Tom Pas, stepchildren Chantalle and Jerry and Cedric and Tania and grandchildren Jean-Luc, Brita and Isabella; her mother Leonora Liotta Ecke, brothers Tom and John, and sisters Janet, Susan, and Laura.
Pat started her career at The New York Times in 1979 as communications coordinator in Syndication Sales. She became VP of Marketing for Syndication Sales in 1986 where she was responsible for the marketing and sales of TimesFax. In 1997, she moved to Miami to head the Miami National Sales Office as Advertising Director.
Pat's dedication and expertise to Caribbean tourism was legendary.
She joined the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, to support the hospitality community and give back energy to the industry that she so dearly loved. To the countries of the Caribbean, Pat was a friend, a partner and a person who cared deeply and understood their needs and concerns. So much so that in 2002, Pat was the first media salesperson to be recognized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association as Allied Member of the Year, for her dedication and professionalism in the travel industry for the Caribbean.
Pat was fun loving, gregarious, full of life and always selling. She was deeply loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Visitation will be held at 11:00am – 12:30pm Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel: 4600 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL followed by a 1:00pm mass at St. Theresa of the Little Flower church located at 2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables, FL. Services will also be held in New York – details will be forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) at 2655 LeJeune Road, Suite, 910, Coral Gables, FL 33134. This scholarship fund will benefit the further education of hospitality students in the Caribbean.
