Patricia Ann "Patty" Cugno's Obituary
Cugno, Patricia Ann, 93, of Miami, FL. passed away on June 15, 2022, in Miami, Fl.
Patty was born in Charleston, West Virginia to Pauline Core and Theodore Ramsay on March 6, 1929. She graduated from Ponce de Leon high school in Miami and graduated from college at the University of Miami where she was a member of Kappa Pi, Delta Theta Mu, and treasurer for Delta Gamma. She married (1952) Michael S. Cugno, son of Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Cugno of Franklin, Massachusetts.
Patty and Mike raised three children, Michael Jr. (Rita), Maria (Glenn), and Patrick (Denise). Patty was the proud grandmother of three children, Lindsey Bonner (John III), (Michael Cugno (Jenny), Jaclyn Cugno (Kyle) and great grandmother to five grandchildren; Braden, Bryce, Ava, JJ, and Jake. Also survived by her half sister Yancey Smith, and her half brother Cris Ramsay.
Patty is predeceased by her husband Michael S. Cugno Sr, as well as her father and brother Ted Ramsay Sr. and Jr.
Patty was an avid and quite the accomplished bridge player as she was listed as Life Master and ranked very high in the state of Florida. She loved to travel to her parent’s (Pauline/Ted Frutkoff) farm in Blue Ridge, Ga., where the family spent thirty years of endless summers, relaxing, exploring nature in the Chattahoochee National Park, rafting down the Toccoa River, animal watching, bird watching, hiking, arrowhead hunting, or just helping with the apple and grape orchards. Those times spent in Blue Ridge are still wonderful, vivid memories for the family, and Patty constantly talked about all those experiences with her kids. It was certainly some of the best of times a family could share. Patty loved her little Chihuahua’s, Pepita, Coco, and Tiny. They always shadowed and protected Patty wherever Patty went.
Patty continued to be a lover of all wildlife from those Blueridge days, and knew all the birds, lizards, and butterfly species found around her home in Miami, FL. Whenever she didn’t know a species of any of them, she would give one of her kids a call to get the identification right. She often used her binoculars to spot new bird species that would appear during wintertime in Florida. Her love of nature was certainly passed on to all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as all of them have a passion for the outdoors. She indeed left a legacy that will be carried on in her memory with her descendants. It’s a wonderful thing to see, and we all know it came down from Grandma Patty. We shall all miss those conversations.
Rest in peace mom!
