Orlanda Shoko Komura's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Orlanda Shoko Komura, 72, a resident of Miami, Florida, has passed away in peace, on August 8, 2021.
Orlanda had quite an incredible life. Japanese by nationality, she was born in a small town in Parana State, Brazil as the youngest of 6 children.
She spent her teenage to young adulthood years in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and later moved to the USA in the late 1970’s with her then husband, and two young children to pursue what every immigrant family dreamed of - the ubiquitous land of opportunity.
What did she accomplish in life? She was a fierce, incredibly independent human being who broke every possible womanly stereotype endemic to a patriarchal culture like Brazil had many decades ago. She sacrificed EVERYTHING for her two children, and expressed her love for them as well as others around her through cooking and meaningful gifts that she herself could not afford at times.
She may have been a petite woman, but nonetheless, Orlanda’s endless determination to strive to do better and help others out, taught her children the value of working hard to get what they wanted and recognizing how compassion & empathy for others is paramount to life itself.
For those who knew Orlanda, it was also common knowledge that she had an adoration for her feline friends, both adopted and rescued.
She is survived by her two adult cynical & sarcastic children, a son-in-law she admired & adored, a grandson who misses her dearly, and last but not least, her two geriatric feline children.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Orlanda’s life with us on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 10:30AM to 1:30PM.
