Muriel Theresa Disch's Obituary
In Remembrance of Muriel (Mi Mi) Disch
Mi Mi Disch fought a valiant fight but on June 16, 2020 God called her home. She was preceded by her husbands, James Jacob in 1972, and Edward Disch in 2013. Mi Mi is survived by her 3 children Margaret (Ed) Callahan; Mark (Carrie) Jacob and Paul Jacob. She has 7 grandchildren Andrew (Kirstin) Jacob, Maura (David) Shiffman, Ellen (Nick) Long, Sean Callahan, Katie (Sean) Salmon, Ryan Jacob and Mackenzie Jacob. Mi Mi also was blessed to share her life with 6 great-grandchildren Breandan Jacob, Madeline & Mollie Shiffman, Aiden & Addy Long and Freya Salmon. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn O’Dea.
Mi Mi was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 19,1928. The family moved to Miami in 1970.
Mi Mi retired from Miami Dade Public Schools after 20-years from Tropical Elementary in 1991.
She married Ed Disch in 1997 in Niagara Falls, Canada and celebrated with family on their return home.
Mi Mi traveled extensively by trains, planes, cruise ships and cars. For a woman who never drove more than a 10-mile radius of her home, she sure got around and enjoyed life to the fullest with way too many adventures to even mention.
She was a member of the Miami Elks Lodge 948 and the Loyal Order of Moose West Dade Lodge.
Visitation will be at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel (11220 North Kendall Drive) at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. A Mass will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (11291 SW 142 Avenue) with the burial at Flagler Memorial Park (5301 West Flagler Street) For the safety of our families and friends, a Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Mi Mi requested that donations be made to either Saint Jude’s Children Hospital or Miami Rescue Mission.
Reflections from Mi Mi’s family:
Granddaughter Maura, “This spitfire may have physically left us after gracing this world for the past 91.5 years, but her calm, loving, generous, keep-you-on-your-toes spirit will forever live on in every person she encountered. You were unlike anu other, lady, and you are already (and will forever be) incredibly missed! Love you more.”
Granddaughter Katie, “nan, you were a force of nature and you lived life to the fullest. You taught us all to laugh at ourselves and the importance of a strong family. I’m so grateful for every moment I had with you because you filled them all with laughter and love. You shaped me into the woman I am today. Thank you for being Nan.
91 years wasn’t enough time, you will be missed so much by so many people.
Granddaughter Mackenzie, “The world is a lot less beautiful today. 91 years wasn’t nearly enough. There will never be someone who is quite as generous, confident, thoughtful, and of course hilarious as you ever again. Nan, you are one of a kind. You taught me to never apologize for speaking my mind as long as I always showed compassion for others. I am me because of you. I love you forever.”
Love you more,
The Jacob & Callahan Families
