Molly Fleig's Obituary
Molly Fleig died peacefully Monday in her apartment at The Sterling Aventura, FL. Molly was almost ninety-nine years old. She was born on May 29, 1911 in Brooklyn, NY. When she was only two years old, she and her sister, Anna, went with their mother (Ray Lapinsky Rosenfeld) to see her family in her native Russia. While there, they were trapped in the tumult of the Communist revolution, and survived eight traumatic years there, before they were all able to get free and get passage back to New York. (Harry Rosenfeld, Molly and Anna’s father, with help from the Red Cross, finally got permission to and through Europe to find them and take them all back to the US; Finally leaving from Warsaw on Jan. 26, 1921.) After having to learn to speak English again, Molly and her sister lived with their mother, Ray, in Brooklyn. Ray eventually rented rooms in her home on Coney Island to help make ends meet, and it was there that they all met Ted Fleig. Both mother and daughter instantly loved this kind, intelligent, gracious man, and after a courtship, Molly and Ted married. Several years later, their only child, a daughter, Rona was born. The family lived in Brooklyn until 1956, at which time, Ted, a successful businessman, decided to move with his family to Miami. In Miami, Molly and Ted enjoyed life, entertaining friends, living near the beach, square dancing and raising their daughter. Ted died in 1989 after a long illness, at which time Molly lived with her sister (Anna). Molly became enthralled with exercise, and was a fixture at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, sometimes taking several classes during the day. There she met Lisa Susi, an aerobics instructor, and they became life-long friends (like mother and daughter.) For the past six years, Molly has lived by herself in the Sterling. Molly was a fun-loving person who loved to dance, make jokes and laugh. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends at the Sterling, and of course, most of all by her family and close friends. She is survived by her daughter, Rona, son-in- law, Tyler, grandchildren Todd and Tara, and great grandchildren Elena and Zoe. There will be a private viewing at the Van Orsdel Chapel on Saturday, April 3, 2010, followed by a funeral service at Southern Memorial Park, 15000 W. Dixie Highway, N. Miami at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon. All are invited to attend the funeral service, followed by reception at the home of Molly’s dear friend, and “other daughter”, Lisa Susi. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for memorial gifts to be made in Molly Fleig's honor to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the Alzheimer's Association.
