Dr. Mohan Pillai MD's Obituary
Mohan Aiyaswami Pillai was born on March 9th, 1944 to Aiyaswami and Meenakshi Pillai in Chennai, India. He was the 5th of 10 children. In 1968 he obtained his medical degree at Madras Medical College. He met and married his wife Geetha in 1972. They stayed in India for several years where he could provide support for his parents and younger siblings before embarking on a journey that would take him and his family around the world.
The Pillai family travelled through England for 10 years and Australia for 10 before finally making their way to the USA in 1995. Mohan embarked on the gargantuan task of a residency in neurology and subsequently 3 separate fellowships at the age of 50. After practicing in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, he found himself in Shreveport, LA where he rounded out his medical career. He and Geetha relocated to Dallas, TX to enjoy retired life.
At the age of 80, Mohan passed away peacefully at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL on December 30th, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife and children.
Mohan's passions in life were medicine, his family, his beloved dog Pinky and cricket. His identity to his core revolved around the lifelong pursuit of medical knowledge and the passing of that knowledge to the next generation of medical doctors. All three of his children loved and revered him, emulating his unwaivering dedication to medicine by following in his footsteps. He was a good and humble man, had a kind soul and was of simple tastes. He touched the lives of tens of thousands of patients during a medical career spanning over 50 years in 4 continents.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, his children, grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews. His memory will live on in the hearts of the countless lives he touched.
