MILDRED LORRAINE MCGLAMERY's Obituary
Mildred McGlamery, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother passed from this life on December 7, 2024, at age 95.
Mildred is predeceased by her husband, John W. McGlamery Jr., and her son, Douglas McGlamery. She is survived by five children, Jackie McGlamery (Jim Baillie), Diane Herrera (John New), Arlene Catambay (Keith), Gerry McGlamery (Lori Libby), and James McGlamery; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
“Millie” was born in 1929 in New York, NY and moved to Miami in the 1940s. She attended Ponce De Leon High School where she graduated as salutatorian. She married her husband in June 1949. The newlyweds bought a home in Hialeah, FL where they raised their six children. She worked many years as a speedy and accurate typesetter. John’s thirty-seven year employment with Eastern Air Lines allowed them to travel extensively, initially nationwide and later worldwide. Travel was a passion they enthusiastically shared with their children and grandchildren.
Millie’s life reflected her commitment to church and community. She served the First Presbyterian Church of Hialeah as Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, and president of the women of the church (among other roles). She worked with the PTA at South Hialeah Elementary, including one term as president. She worked many years with the Women of the Presbytery in various capacities, including president. She alsod served as board member for Presbyterian Retirement Communities well into her late 70s. While ongoing health issues ultimately prompted Millie to move out of state to live with her daughter and son-in-law, she was able to continue to serve the Lord in her thoughts, actions, and prayers until her passing on December 7, 2024.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Flagler Memorial Park on January 8, 2025 at 11am.
