Maurice R Fitzgerald's Obituary
Maurice R. Fitzgerald passed quietly into God's arms on February 15, 2017 at the age of 88 with his loved ones by his side and Irish music playing in the background.
Maurice was born in Belfast, N. Ireland on April 14, 1928. He came from a large Irish family with 2 brothers and 6 sisters. He immigrated to Canada in his 20's where he met his wife of over 60 years, Orma Rose McGregor. Together they had one son, Gary M. Fitzgerald. Maurice was a machinist at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY where he worked until his retirement. Upon his wife's passing, he moved to Miami to be close to his son, daughter in law Teresa and granddaughter's Shannon and Erin who were indeed the twinkle in his eyes. Maurice never met a stranger that didn't become a friend. He loved to sing and became known to his friends and caregivers at The Palace as the "Singing Irishman". He used to say that there were two kinds of people in the world those who are Irish and those who wished they were Irish.
Maurice is survived by his son Gary, granddaughters Shannon and Erin and various relatives living in Ireland and Canada. Services will be held at 3 pm this Friday, February 17, 2017 at Van Orsdel Funeral Home located at 11220 N. Kendall Drive, Miami, FL 33176.
