Maureena Sarasvati Raj Persad, age 68, loving mother of four, and adoring wife to husband
Terry Persad passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, with her family by her side.
She was born on April 26th 1954, in Trinidad and Tobago to parents Eshvarchand & Daisy Bann,
Maureena enjoyed singing Indian songs, recording family moments on her camera, sewing,
decorating her home, and visiting scenic places. Maureena loved nature and had a green thumb.
Planting seeds and nurturing them into pretty flowers and fruit trees brought her peace and
tranquility.
Maureena had a passion for cooking and serving others great home cooked food for over 30
years. In 2016, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a restaurant owner and officially
opened Choka’s Caribbean Restaurant, in South Beach Miami.
Maureena was married to Terry Persad for 45 years. She loved her husband and dedicated her
life to creating a loving family with him. Maureena’s legacy will be carried on by her husband,
Terry Persad and her children, Kavita, Ambika, Navita, and Tarek, as well as her beloved
grandchildren, Princess, Naaliyah, Lourdes, and Kyrell.
Maureena’s love and strong bond with her siblings were unconditional. She had six brothers
(Virraj, Kalo, KayKay, Vetty, Anand, Vijai, Roddy), and two sisters (Shanti and Renuka). She
also cared deeply about her extended family in Trinidad as well. Her smile and hospitality were
admired and cherished by everyone because her aura was vibrant and blissful.
Maureena loved God and each day woke up giving thanks to God by saying “Thank You God for
another day.” Lastly, as a testimony of her spirit, Maureena said she would like us all to
remember her as a beautiful flower, “Standing tall, saying look at me. It’s going to be a beautiful
blessed day, planted by your moms hand, letting you know, I will always be there with you all.
