MATTHEW J PETERS's Obituary
PETERS, Matthew (Sid)
Matthew J. Peters, 88, died peacefully at his home in Miami Springs on July 11, 2014. Matthew J. Pietruszkiewicz (Peters) was born December 5, 1925, in Dickson City, PA, to Joseph and Victoria (Luksewicz). He grew up and attended schools in Dickson City before joining the US Navy. As a veteran of WWII, handsome young Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Pietruszkiewicz served in the Pacific aboard the USS Dobbin. After the war Matthew went to work in the Catskills. Being exposed to the hotel service trade prepared him well for his move to Miami Beach where he eventually owned and operated hotel bars for more than forty years. On August 14, 1987, he married Bonnie (Bowne). Over the years they traveled extensively and, as an avid sportsman, Matthew played tennis, fished and surfed, but his real passion was golf. The thrill of his life was being able to play the Royal and Ancient Golf Club (The Old Course) at St. Andrews, Scotland. Matthew was extremely generous, kind-hearted and gregarious. He loved people and enjoyed entertaining. Matthew led an interesting life and with his grand sense of humor he regaled family and friends with stories of his many experiences. Matthew was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Miami Springs, and although his poor health prevented him from going to church, he looked forward to the regular home visits provided by Church clergy. In addition to his wife and beloved dog, Jordan, survivors include two sons, Mark (Kathleen), Rockledge, FL and Jeffrey of Manlius, NY; a sister, Dorothy Datz, Port St. Lucie, FL; loving sisters and brothers-in-law, devoted nieces and nephews, and loving friends. He was preceded in death by two infant sons, his parents, four sisters and five brothers. Visitation 2 – 6 pm and rosary service will begin 5 pm Sunday, July 13th at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES, 4600 SW 8TH ST. Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Monday, July 14th at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 4020 Curtiss Pkwy, Miami Springs, FL 33166 with The Rev. Jose Alfaro officiating as celebrant. Following cremation, final niche interment will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, Doral, FL. Memorial donations may be made to Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
