MARY ANN STEVENS TALMADGE's Obituary
Mary Ann Stevens Talmadge, 80 years old, of Coral Gables, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday in her home. Mary Ann was the founder of Dunbar Old Books, a used and rare bookstore, as well as an avid collector of Miami memorabilia and a lover of native Florida wildlife and plants.
Born in Homestead, Florida, in 1942, Mary Ann graduated from Southwest High School in 1960 and received a bachelor's degree in art history from Florida State University, where she was active in the civil rights movement and opera productions. While in high school she worked as a waitress at Tyler's Restaurant, and later worked in the archives of the Miami Herald. She published the newsletter of the Miami Memorabilia Collectors' Club, was an avid painter, and, in 1993, founded Dunbar Old Books, twice named Best Used Bookstore by the Miami New Times.
She is predeceased by her husband Thomas W. Talmadge, and survived by her son, Andrew Phillips, daughter, Eva Talmadge, daughter-in-law, Laura Phillips, son-in-law, Matt Schwartz, and grandchildren Jessica, Moses, and Sarah.
