MARY CATHERINE SHIELDS's Obituary
SHIELDS, Mary Catherine (McCall), 93 passed away January 9, 2016, in Miami, Florida. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 26, 1922. Predeceased by her parents Edward E. McCall and Catherine Shanks McCall, her brothers Edward and Hugh McCall, and her husband of 45 years Arthur John Shields.
Resident of Miami for more than 65 years. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Married her loving husband Arthur on May 20, 1950, in Gesu Roman Catholic Church, Miami, Florida. Parishioner at St. Brendan’s Roman Catholic Church in Westchester since 1955. She was on the staff of Christopher Columbus High School, Miami, Florida, for close to three decades until her retirement.
She is survived by her four children, Stephen A. (Nanette) Shields, Karen T. (Gus) Betancourt, Arthur R. (Janet) Shields, and Catherine D. (David) Lanier, as well as two grandchildren, Michelle Betancourt-Powell (Wesley) and Justin Betancourt, her great grandson, Zachary Powell, sister - in- laws Regina and Delores McCall and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday January 15, 2016 from 6pm-9pm at Van Orsdel.Kendall Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Brendan's Catholic Church Saturday January 16, 2016 at 9: 30 am with a burial following at Flagler Memorial Park.
