Mary Winton “Wynn” Lawrence
November 17, 1941 – May 8, 2025
Mary Winton (Brown) Lawrence, affectionately known as “Wynn,” passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. Wynn was born in Jackson, Tennessee, to Dorothy Augusta (Baber) Brown and William Oliver Brown Jr. She moved to South Miami as a child and graduated from Soutwest high school in 1959.
Wynn earned degrees from Stetson University and Appalachian State University, going on to become a dedicated educator and lifelong learner. On June 14, 1969, she married the late David Ray Lawrence at University Baptist Church, and together they are survived by their two children, Michael “Craig” Lawrence (Evelyn Lawrence) and Melissa Rae “Missy” Lawrence. She was also a proud grandmother to Cody Michael Lawrence and Brandon Ray Lawrence.
A passionate historian, Wynn was especially devoted to the history of Coral Gables, Florida. She shared her talents as the Head Costume Designer for University Baptist Church, Miami Christmas Pageants for 14 years, as well as galas for The Children’s Resource Fund and many other charitable organizations. She also contributed to her community as a teacher, SAT proctor, memorabilia club member, and civic participant.
Wynn will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love and devotion to the Lord Jesus, her commitment to education and history, and her love for her family and community.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on June 14th, 2025, at Christ Journey Church (formerly University Baptist Church), 624 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables, FL, 33134. Services will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person. Following the service, Wynn will be laid to rest at Miami Memorial Park, 6200 SW 77th Ave., Miami, Florida, 33143. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local historical society, Parkinson’s Foundation, or an educational foundation in her honor.
