MARY ELIZABETH CRUZ's Obituary
Mary Cruz, 84, artist, gardener and horse trainer, passed away on
November 28th. Growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania, Mary
developed her love of horses. At 5'8" with long strawberry blond
hair and blue eyes, she was a force. "On a dare" she said, " I rode
my horse directly into the principal's office and he didn't even
throw me out of school."
Mary was a founding artist of the coconut grove art festival. She
was as comfortable painting as she was sewing, sculpting and
working metal. Her crowning accomplishment is the triple high set
of copper doors found at the St. Louis church in Miami, depicting
scenes from the bible.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wenceslao Cruz, her
son Gary, daughter in law Nancy, and grandchildren Rachel and
Christopher Cruz and Courtney Miller.
She joins her daughter Karen and beloved pets Sammy and Beans in
heaven.
Mary's funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapels, 11220 North Kendall Drive. 305.279.6644.
