Mary Strong Barrett's Obituary
Mary Strong Barrett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend, joined God in heaven after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family, who were everything to her—just as she was everything to them.
Born and raised in Miami, Mary’s vibrant spirit and passion for life were evident from an early age. As a young girl, she thrived in sports, especially softball, and found purpose and connection in her church community. In high school, she proudly served as a Dolphin Doll, where she cheered with energy and grace that captured the hearts of those around her.
Mary went on to work for Eastern Airlines, where her cheerful nature and caring heart made her a favorite. It was during this chapter of her life that she met her lifelong love, Monty Barrett. From that moment on, they were inseparable. Monty stood faithfully by her side through every joy and every challenge, and their bond was a testament to lasting love.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Melinda Cabrera and Michelle Fundora, who were her pride and joy. She was also a deeply devoted grandmother to four grandchildren, who completely captured her heart. Her world revolved around them. Whether it was attending events, sharing stories, or simply being present, Mary did everything for her grandkids. She found deep joy in their laughter, their dreams, and their lives.
Mary had an undeniable love for the ocean. She was at home in the water—diving, fishing, enjoying all kinds of water sports—and she found peace and freedom there. But above all, her lifelong dream was fulfilled in her love for horses. Being near them, caring for them, and simply sitting in their presence brought her unparalleled joy. That dream became a reality, and it was one of her greatest personal accomplishments.
Known for her bubbly personality, Mary could light up any room. She loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and celebrated life with all she had. She had an innate ability to bring people together and make them feel special. Whether at a party or a quiet gathering, she brought warmth, energy, and an unmistakable presence that made everything brighter.
Mary faced her battle with breast cancer with unbelievable strength and resilience. She endured years of treatment, setbacks, and pain with courage, grace, and a fighting spirit that never wavered. She never stopped showing up for those she loved, even when it was hard. She is, without a doubt, the strongest person we know.
Mary’s legacy is one of love, light, strength, and joy. Her spirit lives on in every laugh, every wave, every gallop, and every family gathering. She will be missed beyond words but remembered with immeasurable love.
