Martin Richard Arias' Obituary
We celebrate the life of Martin Richard Arias of South Miami, 47, who passed away Saturday, encircled by many of the family, friends and colleagues who were so enriched by his short but joyous time on Earth.
Martin, who was Director of International Insurance at Baptist Health International, where he worked for nearly two decades, was a world traveler who delighted in exploring new locales. From China to Miami to the Dominican Republic where he was born, Martin touched everyone around him with his high-wattage smile. An avid cruise voyager, he was recently acknowledged by World Caribbean International for his personal and professional contributions to the travel industry.
Martin often ventured out for fine dining in world-class cities, ever well dressed. On a recent trip to New York, he had Mexican food in one of the city’s East Village kitschy nooks. Just before that, he had wandered into a shop that sold exclusively designed scooters, and sampled several that day, riding gleefully around the store. This in essence was his approach to life. True to form, a scooter arrived at his home in Miami about a week after his trip.
Words fail to describe Martin’s charm, but those who met him knew he lifted spirits simply with his presence. He is survived by: Jim Phillips, his partner of 18 years; mother, Joselin, who loved and supported him unconditionally; father Ricardo; siblings Ricardito and Randol; his niece, Alma; nephew, Ricky, and grandniece, Ayleen. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Maria Del Carmen Perez and beautiful sister, Brenny.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the annual Relay for Life, Baptist Health South Florida event in Kendall, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
