How many of us as children would tearfully walk with our parent on that hewed limestone sidewalk at the Douglas Entrance Pediatrician's office of Dr. Turner and Dr. Chastain? We knew that once we entered their office with windows open, (It was before air conditioning) there was most certainly a shot to be received accompanied by an "irrigated nose treatment!" Yes she was a doctor. A really good doctor but she was so much more. Dr. Turner was a cook, teacher, an event planner, an artist, an organizer, a disciplinarian, a school master, a fast driver, a counselor, a visionary, a connector of races and faces, an example of a well lived life, a Bible teacher, a prayer warrior, a perfector of imperfections, an inspiration, a "Georgia Girl", a painter of Sunday School classrooms, an image of her Creator......
With her home-going, a part of my childhood and adulthood has been ripped from my heart, BUT we will all get billions of years to fellowship with her.
Right now she is executing some project and making sure that it is done according to "Standard." She is the greatest person I have ever known, ever. She accomplished more in her life time than 5 people. She did not waste one minute of the life the Lord had given her.
She was tough. She was persistent. She was determined. She was skilled. She was stern minded. If you were to ask her what her favorite word was, she would have said, "Strong!" She would use strong love on all her met her. She was like no one else, ever. How privileged we all have been to have known Dr. Martiele Turner. She loved us all and she loved University Baptist Church/Christ Journey Church.
She truly was on loan from God! And now she is with the Savior that demonstrated through out Dr. Turner's life, His strength and strong love.
