Martha Elsa Cornejo's Obituary
Martha Elsa Cornejo passed away Friday, 24 February 2023, at the age of 78 on Miami Beach, Florida.
Martha was survived by her two sons, John A. Cornejo and Charles L. Clemente; her daughter-in-law, Martha Clemente; and her four grandchildren, Yazmin Clemente, Caesar Clemente, Aaliyah Clemente and Sofia Clemente.
Martha was born in Lima, Peru on 31 Dec 1944. She was adopted soon afterwards by the Infantas family in Peru. She later immigrated to Miami Beach, Florida in the 1960s. While living on Miami Beach, she worked as a housekeeper at various hotels on Collins Avenue including the DiLido Hotel, Shelbourne Hotel and Fontainebleau Hotel. Then in the 1980s, Martha started working at the Miami Beach Police Department for the next 40 years in janitorial services.
Martha was a life-long Miami Beach resident since the 1960s and was a devoted Catholic who attended Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Miami Beach for over 50 years. In the 1990s, she was finally naturalized and became as a US citizen, and Martha voted in every local and national election. She loved the simple things in life like watching the airplanes take off and land at the Miami International Airport and the scenic drive from Brickell Avenue to Biscayne Blvd. Martha loved to listening to The Beatles during her drives around Miami Beach and Miami. She loved going to the movie theatre on the weekends and watching the latest movies especially action, fantasy, sci-fi, and animated films. Her favorite movie of all time was Saturday Night Fever because she adored John Travolta. But her favorite thing was watching her Spanish Telenovelas on the weekdays after work. Martha loved the Asian culture and had an intensive collection of Asian ornaments and novelties from China and Japan over the decades. Also, she loved eating at Pollo Tropical all the time and afterwards enjoyed eating a blueberry muffin with a glass of pineapple juice.
A memorial service is scheduled on 20 March 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Van Orsdel Funeral Home at 3333 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137. The cemetery service will follow immediately afterwards at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery at 6200 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
