MARTA LOPEZ-ONA's Obituary
Miami, Florida - Marta Lopez Oña was born Marta Larin Jhones in Havana, Cuba April 29, 1936. Today August 18, 2023 we mourn the passing of a great lady who was a typical Cuban refugee of the 60s who came to this country to take advantage of the opportunities that came her way and that would enable her to achieve success and make a life for herself and her two daughters.
Marta is survived by her two daughters, Diana Calderon and daughter Lourdes and husband Robert Losada, granddaughter Kristina and grandson Jorge Luis. She is the widow of her dearly departed husbands Jorge Lopez Oña and Manolo Arques.
In Havana Marta was an English teacher at the Columbus School in Vedado, but in Miami she entered the field of real estate and over the years amassed the skills needed to achieve her goals. She sold property, and she acquired property. Her residence was always based in her beloved Key Biscayne.
Marta was charismatic. She attracted people because of her positive attitude and her ubiquitous laughter. No matter how bad, life would never get her down. She always saw the brighter, more amusing side of things.
And she had a tremendous network of friends. You could always count on her to be your friend and, in addition, to help you if she could. You knew she cared about you. This was her strength. All of us who attended her women’s luncheons enjoyed the camaraderie and laughter. They are a beautiful memory in our lives.
It was to be expected that Parkinson disease would not fell a brave warrior like Marta. She was an example of courage and determination to give whatever it took to fight the disease. She fought the good fight until the very end. An indomitable spirit if ever there was one. We applaud you, Marta, you set an example of how to live and appreciate life. God bless you forever.
