Marie Josette Decoste, “Zette”, was born on 02 May 1946 in Saint Jean Du Sud, Les Cayes, Haiti. Zette was the youngest of seven children born to Auguste Decoste and Marie Ceyat Decoste. She and her siblings were raised in the country side of Haiti, near the ports, hence her love of the ocean. Zette and her sisters were avid quilters, and embroidered elegant pieces of clothing, quilts, etc… Josette herself specialized in making communion, and wedding dresses.
After completing her schooling in the south of Haiti, Zette decided to join her sisters in Port Au Prince, Haiti where she met and fell in love with Romelus. They spent over 10 years together, until Zette decided to come to America seeking a better life for herself. Her sisters helped her to get to the United States; they loved, and supported her. She was able to do what she loved, and worked as a seamstress. She learned English, and dabbled in mechanics.
Zette loved spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, hanging out, telling jokes, and laughing. She was admired and respected by everyone who knew her.
