MARIE ELISABETH de SUREMAIN HAUB's Obituary
Marie Elisabeth Beatrice Therese de Suremain Haub, our deeply cherished, beautiful, wonderful, and loving mother passed away gently on Saturday, January 31st, 2015, at her home in Coral Gables, FL. "Marybel" had been happily anticipating joining her mother, Madeleine Perret de Suremain, her father, Louis de Suremain, and her two brothers, Christian and Francis, who passed before her. She was approaching her 89th birthday.
Marie was French. She was born and raised in Guatemala, where her parents were planters. At the age of 13, with war looming, she, her mother and brothers, traveled to France to be with their relatives. She was unable to return to Guatemala until 1947. Her father had been unable to join them. During this period Marie lived in Paris, in Burgundy, and in Pau, continuing her studies in France, receiving her International Baccalaureate and attending the Sorbonne University in Paris. She never lost her French accent.
When she returned to Guatemala, she worked at the French consulate. She soon met and, in 1951, married, Carl Frederick Haub, MD. They moved to Miami, living for their first year in an apartment on the site of what is now the Miami Circle. In 1952, Carl and Marybel and their young family moved to their home in Coral Gables, where they raised their five children. Carl died in 1981. Marybel continued to live in and love her home for nearly 63 years until her passing.
Our Mother raised her large family with infinite patience, energy, and a sense of humor. She was a wonderful, sweet, loving mother, always there for her children. She was the mainstay of her family. She managed her husband's medical practice until 1972, and then continued working in the medical field, finally retiring at the age of 79, after many happy years in the offices of Dr. Philip Grossman and Dr. Steven Price.
She had strong religious beliefs and was a faithful member of the parishes of St Teresa of the Little Flower and St Augustine Church, attending weekly Mass all her life. She is survived by her children, Christian Haub of New York City, Michele Marancik of Normandy Beach, NJ, Danielle Haub-Richmond of New York City, Noelle Haub Flynn of Coral Gables, Jean-Paul Haub of Cary, NC, her sons-in law, James Marancik and Michael Flynn, daughters-in-law, Vera Haub and Carrie Haub, and her grandchildren, Jeremy and Caitlin Richmond, and Nicolas and Madeleine Haub, Nancy Holly and her husband, Chris, and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kasey.
Marybel maintained her strong love of Guatemala and France, continuing to visit her family in both places her entire life.
She will be greatly missed, remembered and loved with all our hearts, always.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your preferred charity.
A private funeral service will be held.
