Maria A. "Mary" Landau's Obituary
LANDAU, Maria A. (Mary), 83, of Coconut Grove, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2010. Born in Austria in 1926, she was married for 62 loving years to George W. Landau, a retired U.S. Ambassador who served in various diplomatic posts in Uruguay, Spain, Canada, Washington, D.C., Paraguay, Chile and Venezuela. As an Ambassador's wife, she was known as a gracious hostess and was actively involved in charitable activities for the benefit of the blind, the aged and disabled children. Following retirement from the Foreign Service, she and her husband moved to New York City in 1985 and then to Coconut Grove in 1993 where they spent many happy years at Grove Isle. Mary was the heart and soul of a loving family. She is survived by her husband George, sons Robert and Christopher, and grandchildren Aurora, Jillian, Nathaniel and Julia. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband's eventual resting place.
