Maria Penuela's Obituary
Maria Amparo Penuela Chavez, 66 of Miami, Florida passed away on August 14, 2022. Maria was born in Pereira, Colombia on May 4, 1956.
Maria was a loving daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother that was generous and cared for her family and others. Maria was a pillar in her family and surrounding network who gave feedback, hope, and support when needed.
Maria was a woman of grace and elegance. Maria loved to travel, tended to her plants, kept her home neat as much as possible, and appreciated the fine arts. Maria, nonetheless, found joy in the small things too, whether it was her love for soap operas, movies, music, small talk with family and friends and other whimsical things Maria enjoyed.
Maria’s faith was unshakeable and never faltered. Maria found time and space to practice her faith and uphold her traditions and values.
Maria had a strong character and strong work ethic. Maria persevered and overcame many obstacles to achieve her goals. In her youth, Maria always envisioned a greater future for herself and family. After much effort and sacrifice, Maria realized her dream by migrating with her family to the United States. Maria’s work, nonetheless, did not end there as she worked a series of different jobs and long hours to help establish her family in her new home. As time passed, Maria found a calling in healthcare and pursued her education to become a certified nurse assistant and electrocardiogram monitor technician. This led to a decade plus career with West Kendall Baptist Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital and other institutions caring for patients in various settings.
Maria was a spouse to her husband Jose for better and worse. Together, they lived a life that is worth many lifetimes. From humble beginnings, they built a foundation that is strong, spans long distances, and touched many lives. Through their love, they gave life to a family that would bind them together for the rest of their lives. Maria was a mother, a role Maria cherished most. Maria was the center of her children’s universe and was always present whenever they needed her. Maria always kept her eye on her kids, cheered for their successes, and helped lift them when they fell. Maria nourished her family through her care, cuisine, knowledge, shelter and wisdom; all of which is irreplaceable. Maria was the epitome of mother’s love. Even if Maria is no longer with us, Maria will always be part of our lives.
Maria is survived by her husband Jose Nelson Penuela and her three children Jou Penuela, Nelson Fabian Penuela, and Richard Andres Penuela and her lovely cat Kiki, who miss her deeply, love her eternally, and will always cherish her memory. Maria is also survived by a loving extended family and network of friends as well.
Maria’s memorial service will be held at Van Orsdel at 11240 N. Kendall Drive Miami, FL 33176, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family suggests that donations in Maria’s memory be made to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and/or the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer in lieu of flowers.

MarÃa era una amorosa hija, hermana, prima, tÃa, madre que era generosa y cuidaba de su familia y de los demás. MarÃa fue un pilar en su familia y en la red que la rodeaba y brindó retroalimentación, esperanza y apoyo cuando fue necesario.
MarÃa era una mujer de gracia y elegancia. A MarÃa le encantaba viajar, cuidaba sus plantas, mantenÃa su casa ordenada tanto como era posible y apreciaba las bellas artes. Sin embargo, MarÃa también encontró alegrÃa en las cosas pequeñas, ya fuera su amor por las telenovelas, las pelÃculas, la música, las conversaciones triviales con familiares y amigos y otras cosas caprichosas que disfrutaba MarÃa.
La fe de MarÃa era inquebrantable y nunca vaciló. MarÃa encontró tiempo y espacio para practicar su fe y defender sus tradiciones y valores.
MarÃa tenÃa un carácter fuerte y una fuerte ética de trabajo. MarÃa perseveró y superó muchos obstáculos para lograr sus objetivos. En su juventud, MarÃa siempre imaginó un mejor futuro para ella y su familia. Después de mucho esfuerzo y sacrificio, MarÃa realizó su sueño al emigrar con su familia a los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, el trabajo de MarÃa no terminó allÃ, ya que trabajó en una serie de trabajos diferentes y largas horas para ayudar a establecer a su familia en su nuevo hogar. Con el paso del tiempo, MarÃa encontró una vocación en el cuidado de la salud y siguió su educación para convertirse en asistente de enfermerÃa certificada y técnica de monitores de electrocardiogramas. Esto llevó a una carrera de más de una década con West Kendall Baptist Hospital y Jackson Memorial Hospital y otras instituciones que atienden a pacientes en diversos entornos.
MarÃa fue esposa de su esposo José para bien y para mal. Juntos, vivieron una vida que vale muchas vidas. Desde sus humildes comienzos, construyeron una base sólida, se extiende a lo largo de largas distancias y tocó muchas vidas. A través de su amor, dieron vida a una familia que los unirÃa por el resto de sus vidas. MarÃa era madre, un papel que MarÃa apreciaba más. MarÃa era el centro del universo de sus hijos y siempre estaba presente cuando la necesitaban. MarÃa siempre vigilaba a sus hijos, animaba sus éxitos y ayudaba a levantarlos cuando se caÃan. MarÃa alimentó a su familia a través de su cuidado, cocina, conocimiento, abrigo y sabidurÃa; todo lo cual es insustituible. MarÃa era el epÃtome del amor de madre. Aunque MarÃa ya no esté con nosotros, MarÃa siempre será parte de nuestras vidas.
A MarÃa le sobreviven su esposo José Nelson Peñuela y sus tres hijos Jou Peñuela, Nelson Fabián Peñuela y Richard Andrés Peñuela y su adorable gata Kiki, quienes la extrañan profundamente, la aman eternamente y siempre apreciarán su memoria. A MarÃa también le sobrevive una amorosa familia extendida y una red de amigos.
El servicio conmemorativo de MarÃa se llevará a cabo en Van Orsdel en 11240 N. Kendall Drive Miami, FL 33176, de 2:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m. La familia sugiere que se hagan donaciones en memoria de MarÃa a la Lung Cancer Research Foundation y/o a la GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer en lugar de flores.
