MARIA ELENA HENRIQUES's Obituary
HENRIQUES, María Elena Lopo - Elena - passed away on May 17th, 2016 surrounded by her family, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Elena personified the word mother. She was kind, tender and loving. She was the family disciplinarian - strict yet gentle; hopeful and encouraging, but never judgmental. She provided unconditional love and security and taught compassion and grace by her example. Her children and grandchildren always knew they were loved and safe.
She was born in 1928 in La Habana, Cuba to Maria de los Angeles (Angelita) Onsalo de Lopo and Adolfo Cosme Lopo. She is predeceased by her husband Charles F. R. Henriques. She moved to Jamaica in January 1961 to ensure that her children grew up in a democratic society - free to strive for their individual, chosen goals and not be subjected to communist indoctrination. She lived in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and finally retired in Miami where she remained for 33 years.
Elena is survived by her sister, Maria Del Carmen (Carmita) Lopo de Gutierrez and brother Adolfo M. Lopo. Her children, Charles (Barbara) Henriques, Adolfo (Elizabeth-Liz) Henriques, Javier (Ana) Henriques; grandchildren Steven (Kami), Ann Margaret (Sean Daniels), Christina (Anthony Schiccitano), Katherine-Katie, Erica (Alfredo-Tito Arrojas), Rebecca-Becky (Alexander Haak), Elizabeth-Lizzie and Alexandra-Ali; great grandchildren Dominic and Vincent Schiccitano and Sebastian Henriques; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, 8235 SW 57th Avenue, Miami, FL 33143, on Thursday, 5/19/2016 at 11:00 am. Followed by a private, family burial.
