Mahendra Kumar's Obituary
Mahendra Kumar, Ph.D., born in Ambala, India in 1932, died peacefully at home on December 19, 2023. He leaves behind daughters Kalpana (Jerry), Chitra (Paul) and Sameet (Christina), and loving grand-children Matthew, Nisha, Nick, Hannah, Javier Amrit and Miguel Anand, and beloved great-granddaughter Avani. Mahendra will be remembered by so many as a brilliant scientist and a generous and thoughtful mentor. He was dedicated to his work in Psychoneuroimmunology as a Professor at the University of Miami Department of Psychiatry where he ran a thriving neuroendocrine lab. He spent the last several decades focused on AIDS research, especially in India. He was a kind and tenacious trailblazer who found no obstacle too immense to overcome. He joins his beloved wife Adarsh who preceded him. He will be missed. Cremation ceremony Friday 12/22, 10:00 am at Van Orsdel Funeral Home 3333 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137.
