Madge Veronica Taylor's Obituary
Madge Veronica Taylor, lovingly known as Madge, Ms. Madge, Fatty, Fats, Nana, Grammy, and Grams transitioned peacefully on January 6, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. Born on July 10, 1946, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Stephen Lawrence (d. 1994) and Lillet Williams (d. 2017), Madge lived a life that was a testament to the power of family and community.
After finishing school, she married Roy Taylor (d. 1995), and together they raised six cherished children: Audrey, Andrew, Pamela, Robert, Nassima, and Kevin. Her love extended to her grandchildren: Andrew Jr., Angelo, Beonca, Sherry, Jakim, Dondré, Hassima, Dondrea, Prince, and Reynaldo; her great-grandchildren: Andrea, Ariana, Andrew III, Chris, and Julian; and several nieces and nephews whom she also helped raise: Ann, Patrick, Elaine, Troy, Jermaine, and Marsha. She shared a particularly close bond with her niece, Annette (d. 2024). Her siblings, Tuly, Carl, Sis, Lynval, Tessie, Glen, Marcia, Reggie (d. 2016), Dougie, Desmorine, Laverne (d. 2016), Bernice, Mickie, Paul, and Paulet, also held a special place in her heart.
Anyone who knew Madge knew family was her world. With open arms and a warm heart, she embraced not only her kin but also numerous children in her community, embodying the Jamaican spirit of "Bring them come." Her love language was feeding people, and she nourished everyone she met with both delicious food and unwavering support.
A woman of strength and conviction, Ms. Madge was a pillar of her community. Her strict, no-nonsense demeanor was softened by a deep love and respect for everyone she met. She instilled values of Godly faith, community, and inclusivity in her children and everyone whose life she touched.
Madge enjoyed simple pleasures: soap operas, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, basketball games, Bingo nights, reading her Bible, listening to Celine Dion, playing volleyball, and dancing to the radio. She also had a sharp eye for bargains and a knack for finding the best deals, fueling her entrepreneurial spirit. She also had a fondness for dogs. A free spirit with a vibrant personality, Madge marched to the beat of her own drum, living life on her own terms. She possessed an uncanny ability to judge character and was known for her vivid dreams which often held glimpses of the future. We will forever cherish her hearty laugh, her famous potato pudding, and infectious dance moves. Though she has left this earthly realm, Madge’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
