Lydia Maria Ortiz Gimenez's Obituary
Lydia Maria Ortiz Gimenez was born on May 18, 1932 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Fausto Ortiz and Pepita Bigles Ortiz. She graduated from Perpetuo Socorro High School in Miramar, Puerto Rico. She married Antonio S. Gimenez on October 23, 1953 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Lydia was best known for: volunteering for the Rockway Elementary PTA for many years, making baby blankets for all baby showers that she attended along for each of her own grandchildren and various other sewing and crafty things, always providing snacks and "scratchies" for her grandchildren upon request, traveling, whether it was driving around the US when her kids were young, visiting Disney with her grandkids or cruising the world with just her and Tony in their later years, avidly doing crosswords puzzles everyday while perched on her bed with her rosary in her hand. She also loved to watch sports, especially the Olympics. She was a season ticket holder for the Marlins and was known around Marlins Park for her and Tony's Kiss Cam moments at the stadium.
Lydia is survived by her loving family including: Her husband of 68 years Antonio Gimenez, Her four children and their spouses: Lydia Nina and Husband Michael, Antonio Gimenez wife Franceli, Evelyn Imwalle and husband Dennis, and Carlos Gimenez and wife Cheryl, Her eight grandchildren Evelyn, Cassandra, Rory, Ryann, David, Daniel, Denisse, and Alex. Her eight great grandchildren Mikey, Kaylee, Monroe, Ryker, Sawyer, Abby, Anthony, and JJ.
All services for Lydia will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021. Visitation: 10:00 am at Van Orsdel Kendall Chapel: 11220 SW 88th Street, Miami, Fl. 33176, Service at 1:00pm at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel, Burial: 3:00pm at Our Lady Mercy Catholic Cemetery: 1411 NW 25th Street, Doral, FL 33172
