Lourdes S. De Castro - "Ticocotte"'s Obituary
Lourdes De Castro (Ticocotte) passed away on august 8 2023, 2 days before her 95th birthday, peacefully in her home.
Lourdes was born in Les Cayes, Haiti on August 10th, 1928, second daughter of Gustave De Castro and Vaniza Pinette. In the late 1950’s, she left Haiti to go to Jamaica where she learned English and attended secretarial school. Upon graduation she moved permanently to New York before retiring to Miami where she would remain until her last days.
She was a devout member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and hosted many prayer groups at her home especially on the first Saturday of the month when they recited “les mille Ave”. She will be remembered for her great fear and love of God and His word, her always positive attitude no matter what the circumstances, her joie de vivre (vaut mieux rire que pleurer), her strong personality, her “no filter” opinions, and for always being there for everybody especially her daughter and grandchildren - today we drink a cocktail to her memory.
She is survived by her daughter Nettie Jannini, her grandchildren Elodie, Dazné, Jean-Marc Cajuste and Gaelle, her great grandchildren Jaïhr, Chad, Roger et Sebastien.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the foundation that Lourdes created, IMED (3, Impasse Damas, 19 Delmas, Haiti). Please contact Lourdes' granddaughters for donations.
