Louise S. Schaeffer's Obituary
SCHAEFFER, LOUISE SMITH, peacefully passed away on February 1, 2009 at the age of 96. She was born November 27, 1912 in Newport, RI. Louise was the widow of Oden A. Schaeffer, M.D. Louise grew up in Newport, RI and Miami, FL. She attended Miami Senior High School and the University of Miami where she was Chi Omega. In WWII, Louise was a gray lady with the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove, where she served on the St. Stephen's Day School Board of Trustees. She also was a former member of the Riviera Country Club, the Coral Gables Country Club and the Bath Club, Miami Beach. Louise was an active member of Doctors' Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the Viscayans and the Coral Gables Garden Club for many years. Louise loved to travel and spent summers with her family at their summer home in Highlands, NC. In 1988, Louise moved to Columbia, SC where she was a member of the WildeWood Women's Club and the WildeWood Garden Club. She returned to Coral Gables in 1999. She is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie S. Kirkland (William) of Columbia, SC, and Catherine S. Wright of Coral Gables, FL; one grandson, Thomas J. Wright, V (Kristin) of Portsmouth, VA; her new great granddaughter, Gwyneth P. Wright; one sister, Josephine H. Jackson of Etowah, NC; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite cousin, Corliss Dean of Sequim, WA. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 2750 McFarlane Road, Coconut Grove, FL on Thursday, February 19th at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice.
