Lou, 90, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2018. Born and raised in New York, he moved to Miami in 1961 where he resided until his death. He proudly served his country first as a member of the U.S. Navy and then in the Army 5 years later. After his military service, Lou attended George Washington University where he received his BA degree in History and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He continued his education at American University receiving a Master’s Degree in Communication. A beloved teacher, he taught Drama in the Miami-Dade Public School System for many years inspiring and influencing the lives of his countless students.
Lou was predeceased by his parents, Anagnostis and Eugenia Alexiou, brother, Constantine (Irene) Alexiou and sister, Peggy Angelakos. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nikki, sister Eleftheria Koumoutseas, niece-godddaughter Eugenie (Peter) Trefz, nephew Basil Dean (Helen) Angelakos and grandnephews Michael, Nicholas and Stephen.
To say that Lou loved life is an understatement. His magnetic personality always shine through and he made everyone he met fell like family. Affectionately known as “Crazy Lou” his tremendous sense of humor and boisterous laugh made him the life of any party. Lou’s generous spirit and zest for life were infectious and he will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to know him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 12th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL. A Trisagion memorial service will be performed at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 S.W. 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33129. Funeral Services and final burial will be held on Wednesday October 17th at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 am in Norfolk, VA
