Loris J. Wright's Obituary
A Candle in the Wind
Loris, the daughter of Icilda and Beresford, came to us on the 25th of Feb.1933. She lived most of her early years in the Parish where she was born, Portland in Jamaica. She later went to England to study nursing.
While in London, she met Lionel Wright and she consequently became his wife. The couple soon had a daughter, Theresa, and decided that the warmth of Jamaica was far better than the miserable cold of that foreign land and so they returned home.
Five years later, Loris gave birth to Pedro and then two years after him, Miguel. At this point, she thought her family was complete, but many years later and to the surprise of many, including herself, baby Omar made her brood now four.
Our mother traveled between Jamaica and New York and slowly brought her family over. With the help of her sister Linda, she transitioned from working as a Private Duty Nurse to working at Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital where she remained until her retirement.
Mummy spent her golden years continuing to travel between Jamaica and the States. She witnessed the marriages of Miguel and Omar and became a beloved addition to those extended families. Her five grandchildren, Guiliano (Nano), Meikka (Meeks), Giovanni (Gio), Cristiano (Niko) and Brooklyn (Brookie), have all benefited from having a grandmother who I’m sure they will not soon forget. Her Daughters-in-Law, ex and present – Marina, Monique and Karina will also miss her presence.
Her brothers, Edley and “Doc” will share in our grief as will their children and Aunt Lin’s family.
For over 60 years, Loris has remained a dutiful partner of our father, Lionel. Together they have seen the passing of most of their fiends and now he must walk life’s path without her.
“Rest in Peace”, “We love you and will miss you” seem like phrases that just scratch the surface of the depth of our loss…but what do you replace them with?
Just as a candle provides light and warmth, so too will the memory of this wonderful and beautiful woman provide each of us with illumination and comfort.
It’s your time to shine.
Shine Brightly Loris.
