Linton Thomas Fowler Sr.'s Obituary
Dr. Linton Thomas Fowler Sr. went home to be with the Lord on June 19, 2022, at 12:02 A.M. He was 87 years old and passed away in his residence in Miami, Florida.
He was raised in Fayette, Alabama and was the oldest of 6 children. He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Fowler; his mother, Alcie Otho Sprinkle Fowler; and his sister, Brownie Fowler Burkett.
Dr. Fowler graduated from Fayette County High School in 1954 where he played basketball, was the school’s sports reporter, and was voted most handsome. He was also a member of the school’s 4-H Club, FFA Club, Glee Club, and Who’s Who. After high school, he attended Tennessee Temple University where he continued to play basketball and became yearbook photographer. He was a member of the Evangelists Group, Chaplain of his Junior class, and Chaplain of Christian Workers. He graduated from Tennessee Temple in 1959 with a BA in Bible and History. Later, he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Barry University and subsequently his Doctorate Degree in Education from Calvary Christian University.
After graduating from Tennessee Temple, Dr. Fowler worked in several Christian Ministries while living the next few years in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1964, he moved his family to Miami, Florida where he was a teacher and coach at Miami Christian School. In 1968, he left Miami Christian School to help start Florida Christian School where he was a board member, coach, teacher, and later became the principal and pastor of the church. In 1982, he left Florida Christian School and started Freedom Christian Academy, which later became Calusa Preparatory, as well as Freedom Baptist Church. He continued to serve there as the pastor and principal until 2015. After leaving Calusa Preparatory and Freedom Baptist Church, Dr. Fowler continued to serve the Lord leading small group services at the homes of several church members. Dr. Fowler faithfully served in Christian ministry for over 60 years.
Dr. Fowler was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He considered everything in his life a gift from God, and he gave richly with all that he had. Even when he was busy, he would always stop to help someone in need. He was known for always helping others fix their cars, pay utility bills, buy groceries, board up homes before hurricanes, or work on home repairs. He was always ready and willing to take students into his home. He was, and always will be, a great example for all of us to follow.
He enjoyed sports, riding his motorcycle, and traveling, but his greatest passion was reaching those who did not yet recognize the Lord as their Savior. Whether leaving the “Am I going To Heaven?” tract with payment at a restaurant, counseling students, parents or his congregation with the Bible being the source of their answers, or traveling to Europe with students to witness abroad, he always made sure to spread the word of God, so that others would come to know the Lord. He was a man who was committed to the gospel and was the epitome of a good and faithful servant which was exemplified in the way he lived his life and his daily walk with the Lord.
He was a true man of God!
II Corinthians 5:21
In loving memory of my father,
