Lewis Davis Tyre's Obituary
Lewis Davis Tyre passed away on September 29. He was born to Alvin and Ethel Tyre February
7, 1928, in Madison County, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Artis, Bobby, Billy, Gene, and two sisters, Hazel
and Vera.
After marriage, Lewis and Louise moved to Homestead, Florida, in 1949. They celebrated 75
years of marriage on June 12 this year.
Always a lover of horses, for many years, he was an active member of the Homestead
Everglades Posse.
Lewis was a storyteller; At any time, he could accurately reminisce about his youth growing up
in north Florida. Names, people, places, and events came to life easily with vivid descriptions.
He worked in home remodeling and building, eventually having his own company with his son
Philip. Over forty years he and Phil owned an extensive farming operation in south Florida.
He is survived by his wife Louise, son Philip, and two daughters, Cookie (Donnie) and Pamela.
He enjoyed time with his five grandchildren: Melissa, Brett, Derek, Sam, and Matt, as well as
three great-grandchildren: Torin, Lou, and Tarik.
For Lewis there was nothing more important than his love for family. His departing represents a
last-generation loss to that side of the Tyre Family Tree.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, October 17, at 11:00 in New Hope Baptist Church,
Jennings Florida.
