Lester Carl Kjos, 71, died on June 6, 2009 in Miami, Florida.
Lester was born on May 6, 1938 to Anton and Erma Kjos in Kenyon, Minnesota. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota in 1960. Shortly thereafter he moved to Colorado where he started his journalism career and met his wife of 41 years. Lester then began his long-term career with United Press International, moving from Denver to Miami. He had a long and colorful career covering South Florida news events; his primary interest was covering major sports in Miami and beyond. Lester was a true "unipresser", a person who could do everything, from sports, to politics, to crime reporting, to financial news, to education. He covered the Miami Dolphins for 30 years. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Marianne Kjos, Lester is survived by his daughter Jennifer Kjos and her husband Thomas Abbs, and his sister Lenore Clinton.
