LAWRENCE P. GAUTIER JR's Obituary
GAUTIER, Lawrence P. Jr., 84, a loving husband, father, grandfather and true man of God was called to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday June 14th, 2014. Larry was a native Miamian and a fourth generation Floridian, born here on October 31, 1929. He attended Miami Senior High and then the University of Florida where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduating in 1951, he served in the Army as a Lieutenant for two years including a year overseas in Korea. He was the quarterback of the football team while in the Army at Ft. Eustis, Virginia which featured several former college football greats. Upon returning to the University of Florida on the GI Bill, he was elected to the Executive Council as well as the Sports Hall of Fame where he earned the nickname “Gut” through his competitive nature on the football field. After graduating with a law degree in 1956, he joined the law firm of Worley, Gautier & Dawes. Later that year, he married the love of his life Phyllis Denison. He practiced real property law in Miami for almost forty years before retiring in 1995. During this time he served on the Board of Directors of Attorneys Title Services, Inc. Sports was Larry’s passion. Larry was an outstanding pitcher playing fast-pitch softball in Miami and pitched on several City, County and Regional Teams. In 1951 he won a game in Havana, Cuba against the Cuban National Championship team. Larry coached several youth football teams and Khoury League baseball teams in South Miami during his earlier years. Larry was both a Deacon and a Ruling Elder at Granada Presbyterian Church. He served on the Boards of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Westminster Christian School. He was a member of The University Club, The Orange Bowl Committee, Riviera Country Club, and Burlingame Country Club (NC). Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Phyllis and the pride and joy of his life his three sons, Larry, Dan (Tami), and Bob (Jeanne); by five grandchildren, Courtney, Walker, Josh, Sam and Gus; by his sister, Gloria G. Tatol of Asheville, NC; by two nephews, Joey and Jeff, a niece, Julie and several cousins including a first cousin Joseph E. Gautier (Miriam) of Florida. The family wants to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers who gave such love and care to our husband and father--- Wilford Hodgson and Maria Trujillo. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (P.O. Box 140594 Coral Gables, FL 33114) or Alonso Ministries ( P.O. Box 832407 Miami, FL 33283-2407). A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 20th, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33134.
