Laura Whyte's Obituary
Laura B. McCaughan Whyte, 94, died October 17, 2013, in a Florence, SC, hospital after an illness. Born in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of Grover and Candace McCaughan. Her family moved to Miami, FL, in 1925. She graduated from Miami Edison High School and Florida State University. She served for 14 years as an appointed missionary with the North American Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention. She was a life member of the American Association of University Women, and a member of Miami Pioneers. She moved to Florence, SC, in 1995, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Lloyd N. Whyte, who was pastor of Shenandoah Baptist Church, Miami, 1944-65. She is survived by her daughter, Candace Whyte Roach (Steve) and son, Richard L. Whyte, both of Florence; and grandchildren, Mike Roach (Lisa) of Greenville, SC, and Matt Roach (Elizabeth) of Pickens, SC. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Tues., October 22, 2013, in Woodlawn Park Cemetery North. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Rd., Florence, SC 29501; or to the Florence County Disabilities Foundation, 101 W. Main St., Lake City, SC 29560.
