Lara was such a kind soul in the department when I was a student there. I have so many fond memories of chatting with her about our cats and lives. I just can't tell you what a great help she was when I lived far away - I felt like I was constantly emailing and calling her and she was always SO happy to talk to students! She will be missed dearly, but her memory will live on <3 My sincerest condolences to her family.
Lara was a ray of sunshine! Whenever I took a trip to the graduate office and had a chat with Lara, she always made me smile or laugh; even our email exchanges ended with a :-). Despite working with many students and faculty on a daily basis, when we saw each other she always remembered to ask about my family and my pets - she took the time to get to know you. If I reached out for help with anything (forms, registration, you name it!), Lara was there to help me see it through. Lara had a heart full of kindness, and she shared it with others. Thank you for everything, Lara - you are deeply missed, but live on in how you touched others' lives.
I will always hold dear the memories I have of Lara with her 'always smile' and unwavering desire to help. Lara was critical to the completion of my studies and was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise chaotic context. Lara I can't thank you enough for everything that you gave to all of us. Your memory will go on in everyone who had the privilege to know you. May you rest in peace. Jason Steinert, 2015 PhD Graduate.
I will remember Lara fondly as a kind and helpful person during my time at FIU. She was always kind, caring, and supportive. As a graduate student, it was always comforting to see her in the psychology department. She was a good person who will be missed. Thank you Lara for everything you did.
I've spent the morning reading through old emails I exchanged with Lara when I was a graduate student. She was so full of humor and wit, and she was always so willing to help me navigate the process. Her kind smile has stayed with me all these years, and I think of it now. She will be deeply missed. ~Sarah Helseth, FIU Graduate 2017
Lara will be remembered fondly by all of us at FIU. She had always a kind word, a radiant smile, and took the time to get to know us. I am so sorry for your loss. May she rest in eternal peace. Maya
The positivity and kindness Lara radiated in every interaction with her will be missed. Sending kind wishes to other friends and family. Stef from FIU

To Lara’s Family: My thoughts are with you. Lara was a very special person. One of the sweetest, kindest, and most serene people I’ve ever known. We worked closely together and she was the foundation of the graduate program in psychology for nearly 12 years. She will be missed by so many but will stay with us in our fond memories.
