KATHARINA ANASTASIA KANAKIS-KATARTZIS's Obituary
Katharina (Kathy) Kanakis-Katartzis, age 45, passed away at home unexpectedly entering into eternal peace on Sunday, February 23, 2014.
Kathy was born July 3, 1968 in Huntington, N.Y. the daughter of George and Helen Kanakis. She graduated from Miami Palmetto High School in 1986. She received her BSN from University of Miami School of Nursing in 1995 and her MSN from Long Island University Post in 2010. Her passion for nursing led from Miami to New York and back to Miami, where she was working as a Nurse at South Miami Hospital. She was known as a “loving, smart, funny, giving, sweet, tough, strong, honest, loyal, perseverant, dedicated and compassionate” person. She touched many lives and will leave a lasting impression on more people than we will ever know.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Anastasios (Tasso), the love of her life…. her soul mate. She is survived by her; parents George and Helen Kanakis; brothers Nicholas and George; nephew/godson Kyle; niece Nicole; godson Vasilis; pet cat Rudy; extended family and countless friends.
She loved spending time with her husband, nephew, niece, godson and of course family and friends. She enjoyed playing with her cats, knitting, going to the beach, swimming, going to the movies and reading, but most importantly her genuine desire to help others. Kathy also enjoyed the thrill of driving her car with the top down.
The visitation is from 6 PM until 9 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2014 with a Trisagion Service at 8;00 pm at the Van Orsdel Kendall Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, February 28, 2014 at Saint Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church followed by the burial at Woodlawn North.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Breast Cancer Society, or American Diabetes Association. Condolences for the family may be offered at Van Orsdel Funeral Home’s online guest book at www.VanOrsdel.com.
