Jules Jean-Baptiste's Obituary
Jules Jean-Baptiste was affectionately known as Papa Jules. Papa Jules was born in Bain de Henne, Haiti on June 17, 1930 to Caridad and Joachin Jean-Baptiste. He was the youngest of five children. His siblings were Luc, Moses, Erese, and Regina. He survived his siblings as they went ahead to prepare a place for their younger brother. Papa Jules grow-up in Gonaives, Haiti and moved to Port-au-Prince after school. He worked aboard a ship as a merchant and traveled throughout the Caribbean. He moved to the Bahamas at the age of 30 yrs old and worked as a shoe maker on Bay Street. He went back to Haiti in 1970 and met his wife Olga Nicolas. Together they moved to America and raised 8 children, 13 grand-children, and 1 great-grand child. Papa Jules worked in Miami as a drycleaner and helped his wife start a business selling merchandise ayisian. At the age of 52 yrs, Jules was diagnosed with diabetes and prostate cancer. He was no longer able to work but he never stopped helping his wife with the business. Jules enjoyed partaking in politic aysian, and listening to radio ayisian. He could always be found in the middle of the 45 street baz. On July 9, 2010, his wedding anniversary with his wife, Papa Jules passed away at home. Papa Jules was an excellent husband, father, and friend. Survived by: Wife, Olga Jean-Baptiste; Children: Marly Astrid Nicolas Lafosse, Alix Lafosse, Jacques Jimmy Nicolas (Tompus), Altagrace Jean-Baptiste (Minouch), Joane Souffrant, Eddie Souffrant (Bob), Ralff Jean-Baptiste-Nicolas (Luky), Fridland Guerrier Nicolas, Michelle Jean-Baptiste Samuels, Cleve Samuel, Nancy Jean-Baptiste Finisse, and Joel Finisse; Grandchildren; Mikecolove Lafosse, Geralda Lafosse, Jennifer Souffrant, Alix Lafosse, Jeff Souffrant, Danielle Lafosse, Anthony Monfort, Julian Finisse, Isis Nicolas, Jalen Finisse, Anastasia Nicolas, Jasmine Finisse and Joshua Samuels; Great-grandchildren, Jada Joseph. The memory of his life and legacy lives on in the faces of his children and grand-children. He will be missed immensely and never forgotten.
