JULEE MORRISON MAJOR's Obituary
Julee Morrison Major (February 27, 1963 – January 23, 2024)
Known for her loyalty and dedication to others, Julee Morrison Major of Miami, Florida died unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep at the age of 60 on January 23, 2024. She was born in Miami on February 27, 1963 to James Calder Major MD and Jacquelin Morrison Major, both originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Her father was a long-time compassionate ophthalmologist in Coral Gables and mother served on many philanthropic boards throughout South Florida, especially the Florida Grand Opera. Julee graduated from Coral Gables High School before studying at Brenau University and the University of Georgia.
She was ever loyal to the love of her life and partner Donna Waugh. They shared 34 wonderful years of enjoying the outdoors, horticulture, and supporting all the Miami sports teams and festivals. Extroverted and friendly, Julee and Donna easily made friends at every coffee shop and outdoor café they loved to frequent.
Julee was passionate and dedicated to her work in the Physical Therapy Department at West Gables Rehabilitation Hospital where she served patients for 36 years. Her boundless energy and positive attitude permeated into both her co-workers and care for patients: “What the mind believes, the body achieves!” She was especially fond of, and adept at, caring for the elderly. These many years of hard work and commitment touched so, so many lives.
She will be remembered most for her faith, positive attitude, and genuine care for others. A devout Christian, Julee revered the Bible’s teachings about love to guide her life. She cared for and assisted her mother for decades – daily check in calls, grocery needs (“treats on Fridays”), running errands, and providing love and support. Julee never missed a family member’s birthday – cards would be mailed one week in advance – and always prioritized others. She was very patriotic – always proud to be an American!
Julee was preceded in death by her mother Jacquelin Morrison Major, father James Calder Major, grandmothers Olivia Osborn Morrison and Lurline Pullen Major. She is survived by her brother James Calder Major, Jr., sister-in-law Anita Bagri Major, niece Olivia Bagri Major, nephews James Calder Major III and Harrison Shiv Major, and partner Donna Waugh.
A gathering will be held on Saturday February 3, 2024 from 12:30 – 1:30pm at the Van Orsdel Funeral Home at 4600 S.W. 8th Street, Coral Gables, FL. Interment to follow at 2pm at the Miami Memorial Park Cemetery at 6200 S.W. 77th Avenue, Miami, FL 33143.
Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Julee’s memory.
