I knew her only as "Madame Herzeca". I was a five-year-old student of hers in the first grade at the Hewlett School. She taught me French. She was a kind, gracious, almost regal lady. She never raised her voice at us. And we learned well from her. I remember her like it was yesterday. Of course, I had no idea she had lived such a rich, colorful, and blessed life. I only found out a year after her passing, otherwise I would have attended the funeral.
We are all a little diminished because of her loss. I would like to extend my condolences to her friends and family.
I'd like to take this time to extend a final "au revoir" to one of my earliest and most beloved teachers. I never got the chance to thank her in person later on for what she did.
Thank you, Mme. Herzeca. May God bless you and your family.
